Basketball legend Michael Jordan’s 1991 BMW 850i is now available for auction, giving fans the opportunity to own a vehicle once driven by His Airness. Michael Jordan’s 1991 BMW 850i Up for Auction – Own a Piece of Basketball History

Even if Michael Jordan wasn’t widely known as a connoisseur of German automobiles, it’s easy to understand why he chose the first-generation BMW 8 Series. Introduced in the early 1990s after a decade of development, the 850i boasted a bold angular design that offered a glimpse into the future of the brand’s lineup throughout the decade. It was available with either a V-8 or V-12 engine, making it a true powerhouse and surpassing even the M3, which had debuted six years earlier.

Jordan purchased the BMW 850i brand new from Motor Werks in Barrington, Illinois, in 1991. The sleek vehicle is finished in Mauritius Blue Metallic and features 17-inch multi-piece AC Schnitzer wheels. The interior showcases power-adjustable seats covered in Light Parchment leather, complemented by matching door panels and carpets. Dual-zone climate control and a stereo system with a trunk-mounted CD changer are among the other notable interior features.

While the 850i may not be as powerful as the later 850Si variant, which earned a spot on Robb Report’s Youngtimers list, its 5.0-liter V-12 engine still delivers an impressive performance. Generating 296 horsepower and 332 ft lbs of torque, the robust engine transmits power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

When it was new, BMW claimed the vehicle could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 156 mph. The car currently on auction has accumulated just 30,000 miles on the odometer, most of which were added by its current owner. It also features a MagnaFlow exhaust system and had its oil changed in May.

Bidding for Michael Jordan’s former 850i will continue until Monday, January 8. As of now, the highest bid stands at $30,000, but it is expected to increase significantly as more individuals become aware of the opportunity to own a car once driven by the iconic No. 23. So, for those who aspire to drive like Michael Jordan, this auction presents a rare chance to make that dream a reality.
