Some press conferences are about strategy. Some are about injuries. And then some somehow turn into relationship commentary that nobody circled on the schedule. This time, it’s Brandon Ingram sitting down with the media ahead of the Toronto Raptors matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Everyone expected talk about defense. Maybe a few polite answers about chemistry. Instead, the conversation took a sharp left turn into personal life.
According to Ingram, his girlfriend, rapper GloRilla, “gets on his nerves.” And in a plot twist nobody requested but everyone is now laughing about, he added that it actually helps him sleep better.
“Just try to go to bed extra early today,” he said of his plan, according to reporter Josh Lewenberg. “My girl is around, so she’ll get on my nerves enough to where I just wanna go to sleep.”
Ingram’s seemingly playful dig at Big Glo comes just days after a lyric in her new collab with Latto suggests that getting on his nerves isn’t the only thing that the two are doing before bedtime.
On the song “GOMF,” GloRilla brings up Ingram by his government name, rapping, “Told Brandon I’ma have his son next time he leave it in.”
Reporters tried to stay composed, but you could feel the collective pause in the room. One second it was basketball talk, the next second it was relationship analysis nobody prepared for.
Meanwhile, fans are now joking that GloRilla might be the Raptors’ secret weapon. If she can “get on his nerves” efficiently enough, maybe Ingram will drop 30 points with elite rest cycles.
In the end, it’s harmless entertainment. A star player, a famous rapper, and a very unusual explanation for good sleep. Basketball might be about focus and discipline, but apparently, it also involves a little relationship chaos on the side.
And if Ingram shows up against the Cavaliers well-rested and dropping buckets, someone might need to credit GloRilla’s nerve game plan.
