There’s not much longer for Mike McCarthy to play for the Dallas Cowboys. All we have to do is wait for the announcement.
The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be serious candidates for the Super Bowl for a portion of the 2023 season, but as soon as they took the field in the Wild Card Round to play the Green Bay Packers, Dallas appeared more content just be included in the postseason conversation.
Dallas completed enough to lock up the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
The Cowboys last suffered a home loss in Week 1 of the 2022 season, so that seemed like a big deal. Green Bay stormed out to a 27-0 lead and never looked back as the game was not as close as the 48-32 final score might indicate.
Head coach Mike McCarthy steered clear of openly responding to a question on his job security following the poor defeat.
“I think the biggest thing is, you know, we’re disappointed,” McCarthy said. “I got a whole team in the locker room that’s hurting. Nor haven’t i thought past the outcome of this game.” “..don’t think anybody saw this coming,” McCarthy said. “You got to give Green Bay credit. They came in here hot. And this, you just saw on film over the past month. You know, they executed, and we didn’t. So, we didn’t get it done in any of the phases. We’re hurting, we’re disappointed, every man.”
Under McCarthy, the Cowboys had three straight seasons with twelve wins, have made four trips to the postseason, but have a dismal postseason record. Dallas is staring at 29 years since the franchise’s last trip to the NFC championship game. The Cowboys were winning their fifth Super Bowl championship in 1995.
