Following today’s game, Saints rushing back Jamaal Williams scored a late touchdown in a blowout, which led to a heated incident between Falcons coach Arthur Smith and Saints coach Dennis Allen.
The Saints were able to score that last-minute touchdown because Jameis Winston called an audible that even his coach was unaware of.
Winston gave a humorous post-game explanation of why the players overturned Dennis Allen, which led to Arthur Smith yelling at him at midfield after the game.

“I want to start off by apologizing to Arthur Smith and the Falcons,” Allen said. “That was not a play that we intended to run down there to finish off the game. That’s not who we are. That’s not how we operate. We should have taken a knee, so I want to apologize to them. We have a good rivalry, and it’s a heated rivalry, but there’s a way we go about doing our business. I wasn’t happy about that.
“We should have taken a knee right there. They asked me about getting Jamaal a touchdown there at the end. I said I wanted to take a knee. We put victory [formation] out there. The guys kind of wanted to give him a touchdown. They did that on their own. That’s not acceptable.”
With 17 rushing touchdowns for the Detroit Lions in 2022, Williams led the NFL in that category. However, in 2023, he scored just one touchdown.
The team and Winston both wanted him to score.
The Packers victory over the Bears secured a postseason seed, and the New Orleans Saints were officially out of the running for the playoffs.
