Skip Bayless continues to be the target of Charles Barkley‘s criticism, and their long-running rivalry recently erupted when Barkley took issue with Bayless’s “asinine” perspective on Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the Patriots dynasty.
Barkley brought up a purported statement made by Bayless on “The Dan Patrick Show,” stating that “Bill only won championships because of Tom Brady.”
While it’s unclear when Bayless made this statement, Awful Announcing reports that on January 25, he called Belichick a “glorified defensive coordinator” in an interview with Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson.
The Brady-Belichick controversy has emerged as a key topic of discussion around the Patriots’ six Super Bowl championships. Following Brady’s exit and his subsequent Super Bowl victory with the Buccaneers, Belichick managed a 29-39 record, which included a defeat in the wild card round.
Barkley Hates Bayless
Barkley defended Belichick by claiming that Brady was not in charge of the Patriots’ special teams or defense. In addition, he questioned how many championships Chiefs coach Andy Reid would have won in the absence of Patrick Mahomes, who was just awarded Super Bowl MVP.
Barkley called out certain TV pundits who, in spite of Belichick‘s nine Super Bowl appearances, he said were “clowns” for their lack of objectivity and fairness. He added that he gets snippets of other people’s “hot takes” but doesn’t watch programs like “Undisputed” himself.
It is commonly known that Barkley despises Bayless, having called him a “punk-ass” in 2021. Barkley said,
“He cherry-picks the guys he likes and the guys he don’t like,”
“Sometimes, he makes me want to gain weight back so I can hate him with even more weight.”
Previously, Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal made fun of an argument between Bayless and former “Undisputed” co-host Shannon Sharpe on the “NBA on TNT” set in 2022.
