NBA Legend DeMarcus Cousins Announces Retirement from the NBA

DeMarcus Cousins, who the Sacramento Kings selected fifth overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, was one of the best players the team has ever had. Although Boogie is possibly the greatest center the Kings have ever had, he hasn’t played in the NBA since joining the Denver Nuggets in 2021–2022.

During his seven-year tenure with the Kings, Boogie averaged 21.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. During the 2017 All-Star Break, he was moved by the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans, where he finished as a three-time All-Star.

Nevertheless, it was challenging for Cousins to reach his best level after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in January 2018, over a year later. After suffering a string of extremely unfortunate injuries, he tore his ACL in August 2019 over the offseason, sidelining him for the full year.

Regarding his aspirations to rejoin the NBA, Boogie stated the following in a recent interview with Cyro Asseo de Choch of Hoops Hype:

“Honestly, no. I know I’ve had my time there. You know, there was a point where I was trying to make that happen. But the place I’m in my life now, just with everything I’ve got going on, just outside of basketball, like I’m in a good place. So, like I said, I’m excited for what I have ahead and my future. You know, my 12 years in the league were a small chapter or chapters in my life. And, I’m ready to move on to the next and see what’s in store for me.”

DeMarcus Cousins Legacy In NBA

Boogie left us with a lot of wonderful NBA memories, but it doesn’t seem like he will be back in the league. After a spell with the Mets de Guaynabo in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional division, he most recently played for the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 division.

Fans can now put an end to the notion that Boogie will play for their team as the 33-year-old moves on to the next chapters of his life and is undoubtedly destined to achieve great things.
