Even though Aaron Rodgers is currently the NFL’s oldest quarterback, he still has a ways to go before he retires.
Following his achilles injury that kept him out of action in 2023, Aaron Rodgers declared in December that he intended to play with the New York Jets for two more seasons.
However, Rodgers stated in a recent podcast that he believes he may have still more time to perform at the best. He talked about his future plans and his current rehab status on Eddie Bravo’s Look Into It Podcast. Rodgers said,
“I got back on the practice field late in the season and couldn’t get to a top speed sprinting, but really been in a good place rehab-wise, from the start, and feeling really good,” “I’m hopeful I can play two or three or four more years, but you need to have some good fortune in there too.”
Is It Really Possible For Rodgers To Play For 4 More Seasons?
It appears implausible that Rodgers will be able to play through the 2027 campaign. Even so, he would retire earlier than Tom Brady if he managed to make it that far. And given that Brady won a Super Bowl at the age of 43, it makes a lot more sense when you phrase it that way.
Despite exhibiting certain indications of deterioration during his final full season in 2022, Rodgers managed to pass for nearly 3,700 yards and 26 touchdowns against 12 interceptions in just 12 games.
His recovery from the achilles injury won’t be known until the NFL resumes play later this year, but given how close he came to playing again in 2023, every indication suggests he will be available for preseason and regular season games. Even he acknowledges that he’ll need some “good fortune” to get that far in his career, but considering Rodgers’ skill and competitive spirit, it doesn’t seem all that hard.
