According to Field Yates and Adam Schefter of ESPN, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is joining the Cleveland Browns as a coaching and personnel consultant.
From 2018 to 2023, Vrabel was the head coach of the Titans. In January of last year, following a 6-11 season, he was let go.
Vrabel comes to the Browns, who finished 11-6 in the Wild Card Round loss to the Houston Texans, despite starting five different quarterbacks. During his six-year tenure in Tennessee, Vrabel guided the team to three postseason berths and two division crowns.
The Chase for Mike Vrabel Was on for Some Time
Vrabel led the Titans to their first AFC Championship Game since 2002 in 2019, but the Kansas City Chiefs went on to win the championship instead.
The Titans secured the top seed in the AFC in 2021 by winning the AFC South in both 2020 and 2021. Tennessee was defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round in 2021 and by the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round of 2020.
Although Vrabel had a few successful years with the team, the Titans’ struggles in the final two seasons finally to his firing. To replace Vrabel, Tennessee brought in Brian Callahan, a former offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
He conducted interviews with the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons. Vrabel will at least have the opportunity to continue coaching in the NFL, even though it may have been his goal to secure another head coaching position. Along with his new position, he goes back to his native state.
Born and raised in Akron, Vrabel excelled as a defensive end while attending Ohio State from 1993 to 1996. Following his playing career in the NFL, he worked as a linebackers and defensive line coach for the Buckeyes.
