A month ago, Kansas City gave Sneed the franchise tag, but it was obvious that their main purpose was to buy some time until they could locate a trading partner for him. For the 2024 season, the price would have been a completely guaranteed $19.8 million.
The Chiefs picked 27-year-old Sneed with the 138th overall choice in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft. He was with Kansas City for the last year of a four-year, $3.9 million contract.
For the first time in his NFL career, Sneed was set to test the open market.
Sneed played in 16 games for the Chiefs in 2023, totaling 78 tackles, five loss tackles, two interceptions, a recovered fumble, and 14 pass defenses.
