Cameron Sutton, the starting cornerback for the Detroit Lions, was cut by the team on Thursday. A day earlier, Florida authorities had said they were searching for Sutton due to charges of domestic abuse and aggravated battery.
The Lions announced his release on social media with just one line and no other information.
Hillsborough County, Florida, sheriff’s office stated on Wednesday that Sutton was wanted in connection with the case and gave details about the Jeep Grand Wagoneer they thought he was driving. If anyone saw Sutton or the car, they were asked to get in touch with the office.
Lions issue a statement regarding Cameron Sutton
According to a Detroit Free Press story published on Thursday, Sutton reportedly got into a domestic fight in Lutz, Florida on March 7. Sutton was gone from the area before police arrived, and they haven’t been able to find him since. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Lions stated that team executives were only recently made aware of the warrant. The statement read,
“We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning,” “We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time.”

Sutton, 29, spent six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, before joining the Lions on a three-year, $33 million contract inked in March 2023.
With the Lions, he started all 17 of the team’s regular-season games and recorded 65 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and six passes defensed as well. He also started all three of Detroit’s playoff games.
