The causes of death of a mother of two and a mixed martial arts fighter who were discovered unconscious inside a parked car at a San Jose State University parking garage remain a mystery.

Weeks after the two were found inside a car in the university’s West Garage near the intersection of South Fourth and East San Salvador streets, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday named the victims as Angelo Henry, 36, and Deziree Auelua-Misa, 30.

The pair’s immobility raised suspicions, which led to the somber discovery in the afternoon of May 23. The car had been seen earlier in the day, but authorities initially thought the occupants were napping, according to campus police Capt. Jermaine Thomas.

Only when neither person seemed to move for several hours were the authorities notified.

Henry and Auelua-Misa were declared dead at the spot despite the efforts of San Jose State University officers to save their lives.

The inquiry is still ongoing, and officials have not disclosed the causes of death.

Henry, a resident of Monterey County and a native of Seaside, was well-known in the local combat sports scene as a mixed martial arts fighter and fight promoter. Another Seaside native, Auelua-Misa, was employed as a hotel’s food and beverage manager.

The two victims were parents.
