Recent trade rumors have connected failing New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson to two suitors on the west coast. Although quarterback Zach Wilson’s tenure with the New York Jets looks to be coming to an end, two notable teams may be vying for his services.
According to a recent rumor from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Wilson may end up with the San Francisco 49ers or the Los Angeles Rams. The 2021 No. 2 overall draft pick may gain from operating in an offensive system that is successful, since both are anticipated to be looking for a backup quarterback.
What does the future hold for Zach Wilson?
Wilson doesn’t seem to be a threat to either Matthew Stafford of Los Angeles or Brock Purdy of San Francisco for the starting quarterback position, but the BYU product might be useful in a reserve capacity.
Wilson did not play LaFleur’s offense with a great degree of proficiency. Wilson only completed 345 passes for 4,022 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions in his two years as the Jets’ coordinator.
Additionally, Shanahan might be hesitant to pursue Wilson because of his rumored tense relationship with Jets head coach Robert Saleh. From 2017 until 2020, Saleh was Shanahan’s defensive coordinator at San Francisco.
It is increasingly clear that Wilson’s playing his last down in a Jets uniform is all but inevitable, regardless of where his future actually rests.
