Charles Barkley started his journey toward becoming tech-savvy a while back when he created his own Instagram account. To his pleasure, the 61-year-old has already amassed around 400k followers on the network, which has inadvertently led to a deluge of nasty direct messages. Recently, Chuck answered them in his usual way, which caused some people to chuckle during the Conference Finals post-game TNT show.
The Inside the NBA crew forced Barkley to read over a few of the hurtful direct messages he had received during a segment following Game 3 between the Mavericks and the Timberwolves.
Michael was one of those texts, and he said in a hilarious way,
“You look like the mascot from Milk Duds.”
Chuck laughed so hard that he could not stop laughing when he read this reply. Another example of this was when Barkley read out Viktor’s direct message, which almost became a running joke on the show about the 1993 MVP’s weight. It said,
“Barkley claims to be on a diet but we all know the only thing he’s cutting is the line at Krispy Kreme.”
He may have overlooked these remarks, but not all of the DMs did. For example, a supporter named Chris referred to Barkley as slow-witted in an oblique manner, writing,
“Announcing NBA Playoffs does not require a lot of brain power.”.
Chuck was quick to reply, “Hey Chris, yo mama!”
Michael wrote, “Amidst this negativity, Barkley also received appreciation from his followers,” in one of those amusing tweets. I’m not sure if anyone mentioned you’re handsome, texted KJ, one of his female fans. Chuck was clearly thrilled by this acknowledgement and blushed as he replied, “This a good one.I’m grateful, KJ.
The range of responses to his Instagram presence demonstrates the differing views NBA fans have of him. One element, nevertheless, is shared by all of them. Barkley’s public image gained more traction since each of those admirers thought of him as a relatable celebrity.
