Glen “Big Baby” Davis, a former NBA player, was given a 40-month prison term on Thursday for scamming the league’s healthcare program. In addition, Davis, 38, received a sentence that included three years of supervised release.
Davis faced 20 years in prison after being found guilty in November of health care fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to make false statements, and conspiracy to commit health care and wire fraud.
According to federal prosecutors, Davis and others engaged in a four-year plot to swindle an insurance plan for NBA players and their families of over $5 million.

Davis filed claims totaling $132,000, one of which stated that on October 2, 2018, he received dental procedures costing $27,200 at a Beverly Hills practice. Using his cellphone’s geolocation data as evidence, the authorities said he was in fact in Las Vegas at the time and had taken a flight to Paris that same day.
Terrance Williams, the ringleader and former NBA player, was among the more than 20 individuals found guilty in the case; Williams received a 10-year jail sentence.
In addition to being compelled to pay roughly $183,000 in reparations, Will Bynum, another NBA player, was sentenced to 18 months in jail last month for making false claims to the NBA Players’ Health and Welfare Benefit Plan.
Playing with the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers over the course of eight NBA seasons, Davis was a part of the Celtics’ 2008 championship team.
