Isis Navarro Reyes, a TikToker, was detained on May 1st on suspicion of peddling counterfeit weight-loss medications, including Ozempic, to a customer who might have become infected with a potentially fatal virus. One woman’s purported acts during the current Ozempic frenzy might have been dangerous.
According to a statement from the Southern District of New York’s Attorney’s Office, Isis Navarro Reyes, a TikToker and resident of New York state, was detained on May 1 for allegedly using social media to illegally promote and sell misbranded Ozempic, a type 2 diabetes medication that is frequently used for weight loss, as well as Mesofrance and Axcion products.
The fraud run by Isis Navarro Reyes
Authorities claim that Reyes “marketed, advertised, and sold various misbranded weight loss drugs that require a prescription” that she obtained from Central and South America between November 2022 and January 2024.
According to the attorney’s office, Reyes, 36, was contacted by an undercover law enforcement officer in December 2023. The officer eventually bought what was billed as Ozempic from Reyes without requesting a prescription. According to reports, the medication’s labeling was entirely written in Spanish, which is against FDA guidelines.
Furthermore, in February 2023, Reyes allegedly provided 30 injections of Mesofrance to an unidentified lady identified as “Victim-1” without requesting or requiring a prescription.
