Jerry “The King” Lawler, 74, a WWE Legend, “Axed” After 32 Years of Service

According to reports, the WWE fired Jerry “The King” Lawler after more than THREE DECADES of involvement with the business. The 74-year-old fan favorite Lawler has been a member of the WWE roster since December 1992.

However, it seems that his tenure with the top wrestling promotion is coming to an end. PW Insider claims that the WWE executives “declined” to extend the legend’s contract, and that’s why. The decision to fire Lawler shocked insiders of the wrestling website.

They are cited as stating:

“The old company is dead.

“People can say they hate Vince [McMahon] and Kevin [Dunn] all they want, and they’d be right to do so. “But certain people would have been taken care of.  “Lawler would have been one, but this isn’t the old WWE.

“Howard Finkel, God bless him, wouldn’t have had a job for life here anymore, either.”

Fans react to Jerry “The King” Lawler getting axed

When word leaked out that Lawler had, as of yet, left the WWE, fans all around the world were stunned.

On X, someone wrote:

“How the hell does WWE not find something for Jerry ‘The King; Lawler to do?”

Another said: “He’s one of the best on commentary.”

And another said: “Thanks Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler for 32 years in the WWE.

One remarked: “I sincerely believe that Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler will always be a part of the WWE family.

“Even if it’s not in an official capacity like being under some contract.”

Another chimed in: “One of the G.O.A.T.s of WWE. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.”

Lawler, who started his wrestling career in the 1970s, joined the WWE in 1992 and began working as an announcer on WWF Superstars of Wrestling.

He left the company for a short while in 2001 after his then-wife, Stacy “The Kat” Carter, was fired.

After deciding to become a part-time wrestler, Lawler made many in-ring appearances, including during the 2012 Royal Rumble.

Due to strokes he had in 2018 and 2023, his health hasn’t been the best recently.
