One of the most well-known voices in the podcast age is JJ Redick. Not that JJ needed it, but opening a gig with none other than LeBron James is sure to make you famous. However, he has come under heavy fire recently for his remarks, particularly his most recent assessment that Michael Jordan‘s career has been trivialized. Even though he had hoped Redick’s remarks wouldn’t spark controversy, this 17-year-old NBA veteran on X was drawn to them.
During the GOAT argument, JJ Redick remained faithful to his position on The Big Podcast With Shaq.
But he did make a point about how physical the NBA can be, saying that once more teams and players were added, the league will inevitably become more diluted.
“Michael Jordan, during his heyday, six teams were added to the NBA. There were 90 players added to the NBA. Does that not water down? I’m not talking playoffs by the way. No f**king chance we talking playoffs. You’re not telling me that the league for a little bit is gonna be a little watered down?”
JJ Redick raises a legitimate point. It seemed inevitable that the NBA’s six new clubs and ninety new players would have lessened the rivalry and physicality that the decade was renowned for. Even though he clarified that he was not discussing the playoffs, his opinion of the regular season remains unchanged. Eddie Johnson, however, took issue with Redick’s remarks and decided to respond to JJ’s remarks on X[Formerly Twitter].
“So says a guy who was 6 years old when the 90’s started! We would have tested your manhood quickly! If anything you would have been relegated to serving water to the veterans until you manned up. Analytic brain would have ran you out the league in the 90’s.”
Redick only choose to sarcastically remark, “OK Champ,” as if he wasn’t feeling particularly sentimental.

Eddie wasn’t done expressing his opinions, either.
“The only time I respond is when you reach back to an era with criticism to justify your point. I happen to think LBJ is the best all around player ever, but I am not saying it’s because the most maniacal & best scorer ever, MJ played in a watered down league to justify it!”
I love that whenever I bring up a point about an era…you attack ME and my career. It’s funny. That’s all. Keep at it Eddie!

The two continued to tweet back and forth for a few more times, but the outcome remained unclear. All things considered, Eddie Johnson was eager to speak with his fellow former NBA star. Sadly, he never got the impression that JJ Redick was trying to amuse him. Thus, this occurrence has now been added to his growing collection of controversy-worthy events.
