Luka Doncic’s “Ease” in the Timberwolves game highlighted by the guest on JJ Redick’s podcast

Luka Doncic has demonstrated that he was destined for the NBA’s greatest stages. With a game-winning three-pointer from Luka Doncic, he put the Mavericks ahead 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Road Warrior proved that the Wolves’ length, which caused a number of problems for opponents like the Phoenix Suns, won’t likely stop him from making his first NBA Finals trip. NBA fans think there’s only one way to counteract Luka Magic, even though the Wolves need one badly.

On Redick’s “The Old Man and The Three” podcast, former NBA shooter Tim Legler emphasized that a defense cannot contain the 6’7″ guard only with his length and quick footwork.

Dallas Mavericks guards Kyrie Irving (2) and Luka Doncic (77) spa hands following a second quarter play against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, February 13, 2023.

He asserted that in order to stop the guard, whose patient playmaking might fool sly perimeter defenders, one must possess extraordinary muscle.

I don’t think Luka is that much affected by length and quickness. He is affected more by strength because he plays slower.

Legler stated that removing the ball out of Doncic’s hands is the greatest approach to impede his charge because he is unguardable when handling the ball. He used Luguentz Dort as an example, who in the first round series against the OKC Thunder was able to deplete Doncic’s energy and lessen his charge to some extent.

Afterwards, JJ Redick added that Wolves‘ starting defender Jaden McDaniels is wiry and lacks the Thunder’s Wing’s muscularity, so Dort, who had gained weight, was in fact more successful than the former.
