This season, Quincy Wilson, a high school athlete, was asked by Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson to observe the Washington Commanders. Wilson appears to have attracted the attention of the five-time NBA champion because he has been setting records and creating waves in the track and field.
Buck, who owns a small portion of the Washington Commanders, requested that the young track sensation watch the entire season with him in his suite. Not only did Wilson receive an invitation, but his entire family was invited as well. Magic wrote on X,
“I would love to invite @QuincyWilson5 and his family to sit in the suite with me and watch the Commanders play this season!”

High praise for Quincy Jones from Magic Johnson
Quincy Wilson is breaking world records and establishing a reputation for himself at the young age of sixteen. In March 2024, Quincy Wilson of the Bullis School outside of Washington, DC, broke the world record for the under-18 division in the 400-meter indoor dash. He then set a new record for the 400-meter outdoor dash under the age of eighteen. Magic took note of this accomplishment and noted on X,
“Quincy Wilson was just shy of making the USA Olympic team this year at only 16 years old! Even in defeat he took the track world by storm breaking two under-18 world records in the 400M! He ran a 44.66 in the first round then broke his own record in the semifinals running a 44.59. @QuincyWilson5”
The Washington Commanders and the New York Jets will square off during the opening week of the preseason. Within minutes, the 16-year-old athlete accepted Johnson’s invitation on X, then known as Twitter. Quincy responded to Magic Johnson’s initial tweet on Twitter.
I would love to!!! #DMV https://t.co/EuVI64FPkm

The following preseason week matchups for the Commanders will see them take on the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. However, the Commanders will play their first official game of the season on September 8 when they visit Tampa to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On September 15, the Commanders will play their debut home game against the New York Giants.
It appears that Quincy Wilson will be joining the Lakers legend when the Washington Commanders play the New York Giants for the first time this season, thanks to Magic Johnson’s extended invitation.
With the team’s minority owner and a potential track star in attendance, let’s see if the Commanders emerge victorious.
