A 25-year-old married biology teacher at Alexander High School has been indicted on 27 charges alleging she engaged in sexual activity with at least seven students, some of them minors, according to court records and multiple news reports.
Maris Nichols was first arrested May 8 on two counts of improper sexual contact by an employee or agent. She was released on a $40,000 bond but rearrested weeks later as the investigation expanded. A Douglas County grand jury returned the 27-count indictment this week, and Nichols turned herself in. She appeared in court for the first time Thursday wearing beige jail overalls and glasses. Prosecutors argued she poses a “significant threat to the community,” and she remained in custody. Her arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 4.
Key Allegations
Investigators say Nichols, who taught science at the Douglas County school, had sexual relations with students in multiple locations, including a classroom closet at Alexander High School, inside a student’s Hummer or truck, and at a golf course parking lot. Warrants also allege she sent explicit images and messages to students and engaged in sexting.
One element highlighted in search warrants is a video allegedly showing Nichols having sexual activity with a student while wearing a sweater that read “Jesus loves you.” Investigators recovered communications and other digital evidence through warrants served on Snapchat, OnlyFans, phone records and other parties. Nichols allegedly pressured at least one student to delete messages before her initial arrest.
OnlyFans and Blackmail Angle
Reports state Nichols allegedly operated an OnlyFans account. Students who discovered it through screenshots allegedly blackmailed her, threatening to expose the account unless she gave them better or passing grades. This detail emerged in search warrants as the case grew from an initial complaint involving one student to allegations involving at least six or seven students.
Some charges involve sexual exploitation of children and creating obscene material. At least two of the alleged victims were younger than 16, which can trigger additional child molestation and related statutes in Georgia.
