A 25-year-old former biology teacher and football operations manager at Alexander High School is facing a expanded list of serious charges after authorities allege she engaged in sexual misconduct with multiple students, including an encounter inside a school closet.
Maris Nichols was initially arrested earlier this month on two counts of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority. Arrest warrants alleged she had sex with one student on April 23 inside a shared classroom closet at the school and again on May 2 inside a parked Hummer off campus in a residential driveway.
New warrants obtained by local news outlets now accuse Nichols of crimes involving up to six teenagers. This includes an alleged sexual encounter with a different student on May 3 in the backseat of his truck at a local golf club. Investigators also allege Nichols sent explicit messages, nude photos, and live videos of herself using sex toys to several victims, including at least two under the age of 16.
Nichols, who is married, is further accused of sending a video depicting a shower involving her and her husband to one of the minors, along with other explicit material. Additional allegations include describing sexual acts she wanted performed on her, directing one victim to watch the movie “Fifty Shades of Gray,” and instructing a teen to delete explicit texts and lie if questioned about the incidents.
The updated charges against Nichols include one count of tampering with evidence, two counts of child molestation, four counts of improper sexual contact by an employee, and four counts of grooming of a minor. She was taken into custody again and is being held on a $74,000 bond.
The Douglas County School System previously stated it was “deeply troubled by allegations against an individual associated with one of our schools” and described the reported behavior as unacceptable. The district opened an investigation immediately after learning of the initial claims.
Nichols has not publicly commented on the allegations. She has not been convicted of any charges, and all allegations remain subject to the legal process.
Local reporting indicates that at least some of the alleged victims were Alexander High School students, with some reports noting the involvement of student athletes. Parents in the community have expressed shock and concern over the case.
This is a developing story. Authorities continue to investigate the scope of the allegations.
