Shannon Sharpe Accepts QB Money Hits Differently Due to Trevor Lawrence’s $275 Million Paycheck

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence have inked a $275 million contract that will change his life. Even while this contract was expected, it has caused division in certain media circles, with most holding the opinion that the pact is more about promise than actual output. Still, there are others—including, it turns out, Shannon Sharpe—who were content to see the NFL salary cap continue to rise.

In the most recent “Nightcap” episode, Unc and Ocho explored Lawrence’s enormous agreement, which has a $142 million guaranteed payment. After perusing the summary of the Jaguars’ deal with Lawrence, the former tight end chuckled,

“A quarterback money different, ain’t it?”

Trevor Lawrence’s huge contract shocks everyone

The two also mentioned that there is still a significant distinction between quarterback and non-quarterback contracts, despite the Justin Jefferson contract ushering in a new era for non-quarterback contracts.

Sharpe then reminded Ocho that while they had been celebrating the Jefferson contract, Lawrence’s agreement, which includes with a signing bonus of $37.5 million, was signed just a few days after Jefferson’s annual payout of $35 million.

The potential profits of the other positional players are maximized at a lower salary than that of an ordinary quarterback. And Johnson and Sharpe both know full well that this is just the beginning of it.

Sharpe continued by predicting that a $500 million contract would be extended to a quarterback within the next six to seven years. Furthermore, given the current course of events, it might not be too late.

Lawrence’s arrangement puts him in a special position. To justify such a deal, he hasn’t yet shown successful or led the squad through an entire season. His talent potential and the asking price on the quarterback market were the only factors considered.

It will be intriguing to observe, then, how this enormous contract affects the other franchise quarterbacks—Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love being two of the most important players on that list.
