Tom Brady Explains Why He Had to Take a Year off Before Making His Broadcasting Debut

The NFL community has eagerly been awaiting the GOAT’s arrival since Fox revealed that Tom Brady will be joining their commentary box. The renowned quarterback shocked everyone by taking a year off from broadcasting last year, despite the expectations of many that TB12 would begin his duties. Many conjectures quickly surfaced online, speculating on the cause of his hiatus. Fortunately, we’ve now figured out why.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Brady at last provided an explanation for his decision to take a year off from broadcasting.

Taking a break made perfect sense for Tom, who wanted to learn the nuances of broadcasting before he became one of the great commentators of history.

For this reason, Brady spent a whole year getting to know and picking the brains of his broadcasting heroes in order to hone his speaking abilities. He said,

“I mean for me, it was the only way to do it,” “I realized that to come off a playing season and then to jump right into that, it’s a whole another discipline to learn and I really wanted to take some time to watch, listen, learn, and talk to people who I really see as the greatest at what they’ve done,”

Tom’s efforts to master the craft of broadcasting are incredibly encouraging, as opposed to just stepping in front of the microphone unprepared. People’s main worries regarding Tom joining this field were related to how seriously he would treat this art form.

It may seem simple on paper to analyze and broadcast games for a former player, but Brady himself discovered throughout his preparation that things are more complicated than they appear. In the interview, the all-time great acknowledged that he has been having difficulty in a few crucial aspects of his broadcasting preparation thus far.
