Are Jimmy Butler and Kevin Durant on the way to Houston?
After years of rebuilding after James Harden forced his way out of town through a trade, the Rockets are now poised to be a competitive team.
By assembling a youthful core through the draft, the team started to rebuild in the conventional manner. The squad became impatient quickly, and in the offseason they signed Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet.
With the franchise now prepared to focus on developing a win-now roster, this offseason may see some significant decisions. There’s reason to think general manager Rafael Stone may elevate this squad with the No. 3 choice in the 2024 NBA Draft.
NBA Insider predicts Jimmy Butler and Kevin Durant making moves
According to a Monday report from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the team may be looking to add a few elite forwards, such as Brandon Ingram, Mikal Bridges, Jimmy Butler, and Kevin Durant. He wrote,
“The Rockets are clearly in win-now mode and would love to add star power to their roster, with players such as Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Mikal Bridges and Brandon Ingram as well as role players including Brook Lopez and Marcus Smart being some that other teams say the Rockets could have interest in targeting (with some names more far-fetched than others),”Â
It seems impossible for the Rockets to acquire players like Durant and Butler, two superstar forwards on clubs that don’t appear to have much of a chance to contend in the future. However, they have young talent and draft money that might spark a rebuild for a team that is having trouble establishing its squad.
Although Bridges may be the most attainable, Ingram and Bridges are much more within the Rockets’ grasp. In either case, the Rockets will need to give up a portion of their future to acquire guys who can win right away.
