Brittney Griner, the professional basketball player, is married to Cherelle Watson, who took Griner’s last name after their marriage and is now known as Cherelle Griner. They got married in June 2019. Cherelle is known for her advocacy work and support for Brittney, especially during Brittney’s legal challenges and detainment in Russia.
Brittney Griner continues to play for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA. After her high-profile detainment in Russia in 2022, she returned to the court in 2023 and has since been an influential player in the league. Her performance remains strong, and she continues to be an advocate for social justice issues. Griner’s presence both on and off the court has had a significant impact on her team and the broader basketball community.
In edition to being an All-Star this season she is also now the father of a baby boy via TMZ Sports.
“He’s here,” the Phoenix Mercury center said. “Seven pounds, eight ounces.”
The WNBA champ and Cherelle — who she married in 2019 — haven’t shared any photos of their newborn on social media just yet … but Griner said she’s thrilled to be a “pops.”
“He is amazing!” she added. “They say you know as soon as you see him, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window and that’s what literally happened.”
“Kinda sucks because I gotta leave, but at the same time … he’ll understand.”
Of course, Griner is referring to the Summer Olympics in Paris … as Team USA will start off its quest for a gold medal with a showcase against Germany next week.
Congratulations to the happy couple.
