The finding of two children’s bones in a burn barrel occurred as a result of one of the woman’s surviving adopted children telling authorities that he hadn’t seen his brother in years, despite Avantae Deven’s assertion that one child was “at a Buddhist retreat in the mountains.”
A woman who has been missing for years is accused of killing two of her adoptive children. She has been placed under arrest. One of Avantae Deven’s surviving foster children called the police in Fayetteville, North Carolina, reporting mental health issues. This led authorities to learn more about the scenario.
A boy called police and said he hadn’t seen his brother Blake in years, according to local ABC affiliate WTVD.
Proof of Starvation Torture and isolation found
Blake was last observed in 2022, at the age of roughly fifteen. Blake “was possibly at a Buddhist retreat in the mountains,” Deven first told police when they questioned her, according to lead investigator Sgt. Jeff Locklear. When new information became available, they eventually collaborated with the FBI on the case.
Authorities discovered another death in the family—a young girl called London who was last seen in 2019—while they were investigating Blake’s disappearance and death. Avantae only reported both children missing this year; they were not reported missing at the time.
Before uncovering their most terrifying find, authorities discovered remains at several of the family’s homes while looking into the properties they had occupied.
Police said during their news conference that they had forensic proof of the starvation, torture, and isolation claims. Additionally, they claimed that after speaking with the kids, they were convinced that London passed away similarly to Blake.
