Chiefs Cut 2 of Patrick Mahomes’ Offensive Weapons

Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs have made two startling cutbacks to their offensive line. The Chiefs have had to make some difficult personnel decisions in front of their attempt to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in history. By Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, all NFL teams must reduce their roster to just 53 players.

In light of this, the Chiefs have released two possible weapons for quarterback Patrick Mahomes in addition to making other cuts.

Both dynamic former Welsh international rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit and wide receiver Kadarius Toney have reportedly been cut. This signals the end of Toney’s two-year contract with the Chiefs.

Toney has made 20 appearances for the Chiefs after being traded from the New York Giants to Kansas City during the 2022 season. One of the highlights of Toney‘s Kansas City career was when he scored a five-yard touchdown to give the Chiefs the lead in the fourth quarter of their Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Against the San Francisco 49ers in their most recent Super Bowl victory, Toney did not play. Toney, a first-round selection in the 2021 draft, had a difficult season due to drops; in 13 games, he finished with 169 yards and a touchdown. Toney returned two punts for 23 yards this preseason, but he only tallied three receptions for 22 yards.
