Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback, is not returning to the league as a coach just yet, but he does have hopes of returning as a player.
The player will not be part of the Los Angeles Chargers staff, Jim Harbaugh has stated. On Thursday, Harbaugh spoke to reporters: “I love Colin, but he’s not going to be on the coaching staff I set for this year, and he’s not going to be playing on the roster either,”
The coach went on to say that the two had not spoken since February. Shortly after taking over as head coach in January, Harbaugh had disclosed to Jarrett Bell of USA Today that he had conversations with Kaepernick “about joining the Chargers in a non-playing capacity”. Kaepernick, though, declined his offer to accept. Jim said last week,
“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it,” “He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”
Colin Kaepernick and his return to NFL
In an interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick stated that he is “still training, still pushing” to rejoin the NFL. But if Harbaugh switched to coaching, he thinks he’d be successful. Harbaugh stated: “If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” “He’d be a tremendous coach, if that’s the path he chose.”
Kaepernick’s desire to continue playing is probably the reason he hasn’t accepted Harbaugh’s offer. Since he became a free agency in 2017 and incited protests against police brutality and the murders of unarmed Black men by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem, he has not been signed by a team.
Kaepernick mentioned a possible comeback to the NFL to Sky Sports: “I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for,” “So to be able to step back on the field would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me.”
One of the strongest backers has been Jim Harbaugh, who coached Kaepernick while they were both with the San Francisco 49ers.
