When NBA Teams Started Lying to Dwight Howard During Free Agency, He Became “Fed Up”

Dwight Howard has been practicing his trade overseas for the past two years after making his final NBA appearance for the Lakers in 2022. He diligently pursued a position on an NBA roster before departing the United States, and he had talks with several teams, but to no avail. After multiple painful meetings, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year seemed to have given up on his dream of rejoining the league.

Dwight Howard talks about his struggles

Howard, who signed with the Taiwan Mustangs of The Asian Tournament in May, explained why he intends to play overseas on a recent episode of the podcast Above The Rim with DH 12. He uttered:

“I was fed up. I was fed up with all the cap and the lies. Then I was like, man, I’d rather just go somewhere and hoop because it’s just too many lies… Getting up at the same time, training. I can’t even do stuff with my kids because I’m making sure I’m in the gym making sure I’m straight. And I’m doing this to sacrifice for the team for them to tell me I ain’t going to play or this that.”

He went on to say that he was frustrated because despite his efforts, teams were only willing to grant him 10-day contracts. It was this annoying circumstance that led him to relocate abroad. Howard expressed his feelings of being treated disrespectfully by teams for not giving him a spot on the roster in spite of his desire to play a supporting role, which was a challenging adjustment in the first place.

Howard has been outed by bi-sexual in several lawsuits and his baby mama Royce Reed. Many feel that is the reason that teams have no interest in him.
