When he brought attention to the incredible butterfly effect that helped Patrick Mahomes reach his current level of success, NFL analyst Nick Wright turned a lot of heads. Mahomes and the Chiefs might not be attempting a three-peat if Chris Jones hadn’t sacked Joe Burrow in the 2023 AFC Championship, according to Wright. Wright really feels that Mahomes might have won two less Super Bowls.
The commentator stated that, in the first place, Mahomes would not have advanced to the Super Bowl and would not have won it if Joe had completed the drive against the Chiefs.
Second, Wright contended that the Chiefs would not have had the fortitude to overcome the 49ers this season in a comeback if they had not won the Lombardi Trophy in 2023.
“I’m actually of the belief that if the Chiefs hadn’t won the previous year, I don’t know if they have the confidence to pull out of the spiral that was the end of last year.”
“IF Patrick Mahomes has a rival, it’s Joe Burrow. But Mahomes doesn’t have a rival.” 👀

In other words, Mahomes advanced to the GOAT argument with Brady and the Chiefs won two straight Super Bowls because to Jones’ sacking of Burrow. Or, at any rate, Wright makes that claim.
Still, a lot of internet users took issue with Wright’s exaggerated interpretation of the butterfly effect, even though they agreed with him about the significance of Jones’ sack.
