Lawyers for Tyreek Hill Liken His Situation to That of George Floyd

Tyreek Hill‘s lawyers have taken a risk by comparing his latest run-in with Miami-Dade Police to the historic George Floyd case, which might lead to a high-stakes court battle.

Top attorneys Devon M. Jacob, Julius B. Collins, and Jeffrey A. Neiman—who previously collaborated with Ben Crump on the George Floyd civil case—as well as other members of the Miami Dolphins wide receiver’s legal team have declared their intention to hold law enforcement responsible and push for reform.

The Dolphins’ season opening was shortly before Hill’s run-in with Miami-Dade police. The wide receiver, who was detained but not arrested, talked about an uncomfortable encounter during which Officer Danny Torres knelt on his back while conducting a standard traffic check.

He questioned, implying that things might have turned out lot worse if he hadn’t been a well-known athlete. Although Hill acknowledged that his response wasn’t flawless, he steadfastly insisted that the police response was over the top: “What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?”

Now, attorney Neiman of the Miami star’s legal team is demanding that Officer Torres be fired, saying, “Miami-Dade should have fired Officer Torres long ago.” Collins continued, saying that the encounter could have turned tragic if Hill hadn’t been a well-known and affluent Black guy.

Jacob, for his part, likened Hill’s situation to that of George Floyd’s passing in 2020, saying: “Tyreek intends to continue the national movement for necessary police reform that George Floyd’s death started.”

The Miami-Dade Police Department has released bodycam footage of Hill and the cops having a heated conversation that eventually turns into a physical brawl. According to Hill’s legal team, the video reveals a more serious problem inside the agency. The chief of public safety for Miami-Dade County, however, acknowledged that the officers’ actions did not live up to the public’s expectations of law enforcement.

Hill’s legal battle with the Miami-Dade Police Department has gained national attention as the case progresses, with his attorneys positioning it as a component of the movement for police reform. Hill is challenging the system rather than merely fighting for justice.
