Considered by many to be the best player in NBA history, LeBron James has accomplished a number of incredible things during his career. Among his notable accomplishments are 20 NBA All-Star appearances, four NBA MVP honors, four NBA championships, and four Finals MVP trophies.
After earning his third Olympic gold medal, James—who recently took aim at Caitlin Clark’s detractors—added another accomplishment to his resume when he was named the 2024 Paris Olympics MVP. The all-time point leader still feels, though, that being a fantastic player alone won’t make him remembered.
The 39-year-old is regularly questioned about his future and retirement plans as the day of his retirement draws closer.
The Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James, recently shared his ideas about how he wants to be remembered on the Nike-sponsored The Shop podcast. He said,
“From time to time, I do think about how I want to be remembered, and I hope that it’s not just the game of basketball. You know, I feel like if it’s just the game of basketball, that people, you know, talk about me in the sense of I think I’ve kind of failed my mission.”

James, who is frequently compared to Michael Jordan, stated that basketball is not the only aspect of his legacy. Had it been the case, his goal would have been unsuccessful.
LeBron James talks abouut his impact on community
The 39-year-old went on to stress the significance of living a life that is dedicated to his friends, family, hometown, and community, saying that these ideals should define his legacy. He uttered:
“The things that I do in my community, the way myself and Savannah raised our kids, my relationship with my single-parent mother, my friendship with my guys, and being able to help my people from my hometown. If those conversations don’t hit the barbershops, don’t hit the forums, or whatever the case may be, then I feel like my mission wasn’t completed. I’m still not done. I am old as f**k in basketball terms. But I am young in life. I still have so much more work to do. I am still building my blocks.”
James feels that he has not finished his work yet. He said he is young in life but old in basketball, which enables him to give back more to his community. James recently inked a contract extension with the Lakers, so fans will still get to witness the legend’s supremacy on the court.
Furthermore, the Lakers selected his son Bronny James in the 2024 NBA draft. The viewers will find it fascinating to watch the father-son team perform together.
