During the Olympics, Steve Kerr was the biggest public opponent in Boston, and the multi-champion coach anticipates that status quo. The problem arose from Kerr benching Jayson Tatum, the premier player for the Boston Celtics, and his odd choice to give JT’s “lesser” teammates more playing time.
The 58-year-old said in an interview with NBA.com’s Steve Aschburner that he expects a cold greeting when the Warriors come to New England on November 6. When asked what he thought the Boston crowd would be like on that particular date, Kerr said : “I think they’re going to be all over me. That’s fine,”
Steve Kerr Retains Jayson Tatum conducted himself professionally
The nine-time champion asserted that all 12 members of Team USA were aware of what was about to happen, notwithstanding the controversy surrounding his choice. Even in pivotal games where Kerr had to limit his rotation, Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton were ready for what was to come. Steve Kerr said : “Those guys were all great. Jayson handled things so well. Then obviously it became a media subject, but he couldn’t have handled it better. Tyrese, same thing. Every game was different. And we talked about that from the first night – 12 superstars and probably only nine can play consistent minutes,” . “They handled themselves really professionally and pulled for each other. I couldn’t be prouder of them all.”
To be fair to Hali, he seems content simply by being there. Tatum, on the other hand, finds it difficult to accept. The guy was the team’s best option and had recently won a championship, but Jrue Holiday and Derrick White were suddenly ahead of him in the depth chart. Numerous celebrities responded adversely to Jayson’s benching, ranging from Carmelo Anthony’s direct assessment to JT’s mother criticizing Kerr.
