After looking into a “concerning video” of an employee following a Black adolescent around what his mother claimed was his Florida neighborhood, London Stock Exchange Group Plc fired the employee.

According to someone acquainted with the situation, Stephen Carega was fired by the company after he was shown on a video in which he and his neighbors trailed a Black teen as he strolled around his area. In a statement that omitted Carega’s name, an LSEG representative stated: “The individual involved was initially suspended while we investigated the matter,”  “The investigation has now concluded, and the individual’s employment has been terminated.”

Emails and a text message asking for comment were not answered by Carega. Several calls to his registered phone numbers were unsuccessful.

After Hurricane Milton left their home without electricity, a Florida lady shared a series of videos this week that she said were recorded by her son while he was taking a stroll around their neighborhood. In the recordings, a number of males follow her son around, calling him derogatory names like “loser” and asking him repeatedly what he’s doing in what they describe as a gated community. One expressed dissatisfaction with his wife’s interactions with the teenager.

Many viewers said the meeting reminded images of the American South during the Jim Crow era, and one of the videos has received over 5 million views on TikTok. LSEG’s social media accounts have been inundated with comments urging the business to take action against Carega. The company said : “We expect the conduct of our employees to meet a high standard,”. “LSEG operates a zero-tolerance policy against any form of racism, discrimination, prejudice or harassment.”
