Deshaun Watson recently faced another lawsuit, which was filed about four weeks ago, alleging sexual assault and battery. However, this case has now been resolved through a confidential settlement, according to Watson’s attorney Tony Buzbee. The settlement’s confidentiality clause means the accuser will not cooperate with the NFL, making it difficult for the league to conduct any further investigation or impose additional suspensions on Watson.
This outcome also prevents the Cleveland Browns from using this lawsuit to void any of Watson’s remaining guaranteed money on his five-year, $230 million contract according to Pro Football Talk. He is still owed $92 million for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, which the Browns must pay, although they are not obligated to play him. Watson already served an 11-game suspension in 2022 related to previous sexual misconduct allegations, and this settlement seems to shield him from further league discipline regarding this specific case.
This case follows a pattern seen in more than 20 other lawsuits Watson has faced since 2021, involving claims of sexual misconduct during massage sessions. Watson has consistently denied the allegations but has settled most of the lawsuits out of court. Despite the resolution of this latest case, Watson’s guaranteed contract with the Cleveland Browns remains intact, and the settlement does not affect his ability to continue playing, as the NFL is unlikely to impose further suspensions.
