Deshaun Watson is currently facing a new sexual assault lawsuit that was filed in early September 2024. Watson has strongly denied the accusations, and his lawyer, Rusty Hardin, issued a statement emphasizing that they believe Watson will be vindicated. The NFL is now reviewing the claims, and if it determines that Watson violated its conduct policy, he could face further discipline, including potential suspension. Additionally, if the Browns were not informed about this case before Watson signed his contract, the team may have grounds to void his guarantees, which total $92 million over the next two years.
The accuser’s attorney Tony Buzbee claims they have strong evidence that they will be turning over to the NFL to prove their case.
The attorney representing the plaintiff in a civil lawsuit accusing Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and battery told ESPN on Thursday that the woman will speak to the NFL within the next two weeks.
“We will be scheduling a meeting with the NFL and hope that can be accomplished in the next two weeks,” attorney Tony Buzbee wrote in an email. “We have a video and two additional witnesses for the NFL to speak with. I’ve personally never had confidence in the NFL’s disciplinary process but my client has chosen to engage it.”
The NFL on Tuesday said it is reviewing the complaint under the personal conduct policy, but the league added that Watson will not be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list because there have been no formal charges and the league’s review just began.
Watson claims he found out about the lawsuit once it was filed. Buzbee claims that he contacted Watson’s legal team 10 months ago, and they could not come to an agreement.
The Jane Doe is accusing Watson of raping her in her home after asking for a booty massage.
