Beyond skill, the NBA has changed in a lot of ways. Cannabis was taken from the league’s list of prohibited substances in 2023. Before then, a lot of players were open about their experiences with marijuana. One of the rare athletes who supported the use of the drug was NBA star Dwyane Wade, who even went so far as to identify former US President Barack Obama as someone he would like to smoke with.
Wade listed five persons, living or dead, that he would like to party with during his appearance on the “All the Smoke” podcast. Obama was the most interesting individual mentioned because of the things Wade would like taking part in. He said : “I want to vibe with [Barack Obama], especially drinking wine. [Smoking marijuana] we can do it.”
Wade pleaded that he wanted to speak with the former president on something important. But the combination of wine and cannabis would make the Hall-of-Famer encounter unforgettable.
He mentioned a number of political figures in his top five party companions, including Obama. Wade named renowned activist Martin Luther King Jr. and the 44th President of the United States. He also mentioned Jay-Z, Oprah Winfrey, and Eddie Murphy.
Wade is the creator of a cannabis and wine business. In 2014, he introduced Wade Cellars, and in 2023, the 13-time All-Star established the limited-edition cannabis company Hall of Flame.
