Shaurn Thomas entered a guilty plea to kill a man over a drug debt in 2023 after his 1990 murder conviction was overturned.
In addition to receiving a $4.1 million payment from the city of Philadelphia, Shaurn Thomas became a standard-bearer for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project after serving 24 years in prison for an overturned murder conviction.
Seven years after being freed, Thomas now acknowledges that he killed another guy in early 2023 over a $1,200 drug debt. Consequently, Thomas is likely to spend the remainder of his life in a cell.
Shaurn Thomas kills a man for unpaid cocaine money
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Thomas, 50, met his victim through a group of ex-offenders whose convictions were reversed, which is another strange turn of events. Thomas met a boyhood acquaintance through a girlfriend whose brother was also wrongfully imprisoned for murder. The buddy stole $1,200 worth of cocaine from Thomas to sell but did not reimburse him.

In January 2023, Thomas shot and killed Akeem Edwards, a 38-year-old man. Additionally, he entered a guilty plea to charges of third-degree murder and firearms violations in Philadelphia on Thursday. In February, he will receive his sentence.
The Inquirer claims that Roxanne Covington, the judge of the common pleas court, said she was shocked that Thomas, a multimillionaire, would have killed someone for such a small amount of money.
