NYPD Will Question Method Man Related to Assault Allegation

Following a complaint from a 28-year-old man accusing Method Man, a rapper and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, of assault at a Staten Island gym, NYPD officers are seeking to speak with Method Man, according to police sources on Thursday.

The 53-year-old Grammy winner, whose real name is Clifford Smith, allegedly argued with the accuser at 4 p.m. Monday at the Crunch Fitness facility, located on West Service Rd. close to Wild Ave., in the Travis-Chelsea neighborhood on Staten Island’s western shore, according to the complaint, police sources said.

The sources also stated that the claimed victim had dated the rapper’s daughter over ten years prior. No charges have been brought.

No information was available from an NYPD spokesperson. The gym-goer frequently posts videos of himself working out at Crunch Fitness on his Facebook profile, Method Man.

The rapper, record producer, and actor was arrested in 2018 for not paying $32,799 in income taxes owed to New York State between 2004 and 2007.
