Derek Carr will be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in 2025, according to general manager Mickey Loomis. According to Loomis, who spoke to reporters during Wednesday’s NFL scouting combine, the Saints were “excited about it.”
Loomis stated: “I think we feel like we’ve got a guy we can win with,” “Yeah, it’s tight,”. “There’s no secret to that, and his is a big number, so we’re going to hopefully be able to maneuver.”
Compared to Kellen Moore’s initial press conference two weeks ago, the Saints, who have been assessing their roster prior to free agency, provided a more definitive response regarding Carr. Carr was a “tremendous starting quarterback in this league,” according to Moore, who expressed his immense regard for him. However, Moore did not specify if Carr would start for the Saints in 2025.
Derek Carr is considered crucial by Kellen Moore
Moore commended Carr’s processing skills and claimed that clips of Carr were frequently featured on teams’ concept teaching films across the league. Moore also met with the media on Wednesday in Indianapolis.
On Wednesday, Moore stated: “We feel fortunate to have Derek here, the experience he has. He’s a big-time quarterback in this league,”
With free agency only two weeks away, Loomis acknowledged that the Saints are anticipated to be tight against the cap, but he still believes the team will be aggressive in free agency. With Carr’s $51.4 million cap number posing a major challenge, the Saints are anticipated to be well over the cap.
By renegotiating Carr’s contract, the Saints might free up over $31 million in salary space this season. Carr’s 2026 wage cap in the last year of his contract would be around $69 million in the event of a complete reorganization.
