Carmelo Anthony Explains What Motivated Him to Join NBC and Do a Podcast

Carmelo Anthony will be joining NBC as an NBA commentator for the upcoming season. The 2025 Hall of Fame inductee and ten-time NBA All-Star Anthony was first apprehensive about his new analytical vocation.

He has, however, adapted to life in front of the camera thanks to his venture into the podcast industry. He is linked to two podcasts: his own, “7 PM in Brooklyn,” and one about wine, “What’s in Your Glass.” Melo has also appeared on other podcasts in addition to these.

Paul George, a forward with the Sixers, spoke with Melo about life in the media in a recent episode of Podcast P. George inquired how much his podcasting experience affected the decision and congratulated him on joining NBC’s renowned NBA show.

After playing competitive basketball for almost his whole life, Anthony said that podcasting helped him relax, even though he never intended to pursue a career in media.

Not unexpectedly, Anthony, who is often quiet and easygoing, admitted that he was first hesitant to enter the media.

He stated: “I never wanted to do it,”“I never wanted to do podcasts. I barely wanted to do media. To jump into the media space and just talking about the game, I don’t want to do that.”

“Do you know the amount of work I put [into] this game? I don’t want to just talk to everybody about this. I need to keep a lot of this to myself. I can’t share all of this yet,”

“I can’t share all of this yet. I’m still in it. I’m still decompressing from 32 years of basketball.”

The announcement of Melo’s inclusion in NBC’s NBA coverage comes as the network resumes airing NBA games, with intentions to show up to 100 games year, including playoff games.
