Perhaps Stephen A. Smith didn’t play his cards correctly. Even rival NBA player Kevin Durant has joined in the jeering of the divisive ESPN broadcaster for playing the well-known card game Solitaire during the Thunder’s 111-104 victory over the Pacers on the road in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday.
Durant shared a picture of Smith playing the game at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse on his Instagram account.
On the bottom of the picture, Durant wrote: “CMON STEVE,”
In response to a quote tweet from a well-known NBA aggregator on X @LegionHoops that showed him playing cards, Smith insisted he only used the mobile version of the game when play was halted.
“Yep! That’s me. Who would’ve thought….I can multi-task. Especially during TIMEOUTS!” “Hope y’all are enjoying the NBA Finals. This is going 7 games now, peeps!”

But that response isn’t being accepted by everyone. Smith is allegedly making up his narrative, according to the community note on his post, which also included a video of Smith playing the game during in-game action. Smith posted a picture of a Solitaire hand with an inset of the Pacers leading, 87-80, with 11:36 left in the game shortly after midnight in an attempt to grab the last laugh.
In the last three minutes, the Thunder scored 12-1 more points than the Pacers, tying the series at 2-2.
