According to officials, a teacher at a high-achieving charter school in Michigan that places a strong emphasis on moral education has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a pupil after disclosing the affair to a coworker.
According to Click On Detroit, Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, of Pontiac, is charged with third-degree sexual conduct with a 16-year-old boy.
While Sanroman was employed as a teacher at Oakside Prep Academy, a charter school in Waterford Township, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, the alleged sexual encounter occurred in 2023.
According to Click On Detroit, Sanroman’s mugshot was uploaded by Oakland County deputies on Monday morning, although she had not yet been arraigned on the accusation.
Prosecutors claimed that after she told another teacher that she was having sex with a pupil, the coworker told the police. If found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual behavior, Sanroman may spend up to 15 years behind bars.
According to the school’s website, Oakside Prep Academy is a member of the National Heritage Academies system, which promotes its “Moral Focus” curriculum as a way to help students “discern and appreciate the difference between right and wrong.”
