Although Caitlin Clark, the star of the Indiana Fever, was out due to injury, she remained in the spotlight Thursday night as her team defeated the Las Vegas Aces 81-54.

Although the Fever’s victory made a statement in and of itself, fans were talking long after the final bell because of a courtside exchange between Clark and head coach Stephanie White.

When White was given a technical foul for a heated altercation with the officials with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, tensions momentarily increased despite the Fever having a commanding advantage.

White punched the air and expressed her annoyance as the Aces and Fever players became entangled in an off-ball screen.

Clark rejoiced and laughed before giving her coach a joyous high five as the Fever bench and supporters cheered and applauded her while referees gave her a technical.

On social media, Clark’s high five and obvious excitement at the moment went viral right away. Supporters praised the exchange, with several pointing out that Clark, who is typically regarded as calm and focused, enjoyed the friendship and defiance.

Some even made the quip, “Turned heel this year,” implying that Clark was adopting a more daring, new character while on the court.

Following the match, White responded to the widely shared exchange by outlining why she had confronted the officials.
