Shannon Sharpe Claims to Be “At Peace With” His Dismissal From ESPN

Speaking candidly about his ESPN expulsion Wednesday night, Shannon Sharpe didn’t sound like a man who is particularly distraught at the breakup.

After reaching a deal with his rape accuser, the NFL legend stated on his “Nightcap” podcast that he is “at peace with” the network’s decision to fire him, saying, “They did what they felt they needed to do.”

He did, however, express his wish that ESPN had held off on revealing the information until the following week, in order to give his brother, Sterling, the full spotlight for his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony this weekend.

According to Sharpe: “I just wish, guys,”  “I just wish this thing could have waited ’til Monday. Because I hate the fact that I’m overshadowing my brother.” “The first two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,”, “and this is what the headline’s going to be for the next couple days.”

In his reflections on his time with the network, Sharpe stated that he “really enjoyed” his time there and was “very, very grateful” that ESPN’s audience was able to see every aspect of his personality. However, he made it clear that the timing of the split was the main problem he had with it.

Sharpe joined ESPN in 2023 and was a mainstay on “First Take” for years until leaving the network in April after his accuser’s shocking lawsuit.
