Chad Johnson Discusses Shedeur Sanders’ Prospects of Becoming a QB1

Despite still being ranked fourth on the Browns’ quarterback depth chart, Shedeur Sanders is determined to prove he belongs in the NFL and has not let that stop him from being prepared. In fact, he has been given more preseason reps due to his position on the depth chart and an outstanding training camp. His composed and assured performance against the Panthers was a positive move.

However, just as things were getting going, Sanders had a setback when he had to leave practice early due to a minor oblique injury. He is expected to miss the Browns’ second preseason game against the Eagles on Saturday, and trainers have ruled him out of Thursday’s session.

It hurts his prospects of moving up the depth chart and earning a backup spot on the team.

Chad Johnson dismisses concern for Shedeur Sanders future

Chad Johnson is not concerned about Shedeur’s injury. With the Browns strongly favoring veteran Joe Flacco as the Week 1 starter, Ocho thinks Sanders was never in serious competition for QB1. He believes that Sanders’ long-term prospects won’t be harmed by missing one preseason game.

Due to Sanders’ absence, rookie Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett will have the opportunity to demonstrate their live action skills. Johnson notes that Sanders’ first preseason performance demonstrated his ability to manage attention. He might be able to recuperate and return fresh for the third preseason game if he sits out. Chad said:

“I’m not concerned at all. For one, he’ not going to be QB1. We know Joe Flacco is going to be the starting QB week one against the Bengals when they do play. I really don’t have any concern because now Saturday, when they do play, Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett they will get the opportunity to show what they can do. They deserve their opportunity to play when the lights are on. As far as Shedeur goes, he has shown what he can do.”

Shedeur Sanders’ recuperation period will be determined by the extent of his injuries. He will still be out of the Eagles game, even if he only has a minor strain.
