Let’s talk about the incident with Kailey Sheldon, a West Virginia fan who made some pretty racist comments to a black man. Now, we all know that racism and ignorance have no place in our society, so it’s right to condemn such acts.
Seriously, how do you tell a black man to fix his skin color just because of football? That was extreme!
Kailey Sheldon has been identified as the West Virginia fan who was caught on camera telling a Black man to fix his skin color.
Once her name became available, she quickly limited comments on her Instagram due to trolls blasting her.
Amidst becoming public enemy number 1, she took to social media to speak out.
That woman has now issued an apology on Instagram as she asks her many detractors to leave her family alone.
‘I am going public so that this message reaches all audiences,’ she wrote on Instagram.
‘I wanted to start by holding myself accountable for the comment I made in Snarps’ YouTube video. I realize how incredibly hurtful, offensive, and unacceptable those words were, and it’s one of the most arrogant comments I have ever made.
‘Regardless of my intentions, it carried racist undertones, and I take full accountability for saying them,’ she continued. ‘Words matter, and mine caused harm, so for that, I am truly sorry.’
The West Virginia fan also claimed ‘there was never any racist intent behind’ her words.
‘I totally see how my comment may be interpreted and the backlash I’m receiving for it is completely reasonable,’ she added before again insisting: ‘I am not a racist person.’
Kailey Sheldon plans on reflecting and learning so she can ‘grow from this.’
‘I just ask that my family and friends stay left alone as they shouldn’t be paying the consequences for my own actions,’ she concluded.
It’s important for us to call out racism and educate people on why it’s wrong. So let’s keep the conversation going and work towards a more inclusive and understanding society.
