Terence Crawford may not be done with boxing just yet.
The legendary fighter has sent the boxing world into a frenzy after teasing a possible return to the ring. And he did not exactly choose a quiet opponent to mention.
Crawford threw a challenge toward Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Yes, Boots Ennis.
Apparently, retirement rumors are not enough drama for one day.

Crawford has already built a reputation as one of the smartest and most dangerous fighters of his generation. So when he hints at another fight, people pay attention.

Less than nine months after walking away from the sport with a perfect record, the undefeated superstar took to social media on Thursday to ask fans if they wanted to see him fight again.
More importantly, he wanted to know whether Boots was ready to welcome him back.
“I wanna see something!” Crawford wrote on X.
“Y’all wanna see me come back and fight so bad, don’t y’all?
“Jaron Ennis, would you fight me next if I come outta retirement?”
Boots did not wait long to reply.
“1000%!” the super-welterweight champion posted.
Boxing has a funny way of pulling fighters back in.
One big challenge can suddenly make retirement look less attractive and one interesting opponent can turn “I’m done” into “Well, maybe one more.”
And Ennis would certainly be an interesting opponent.
But just as boxing fans began dreaming of a showdown, Crawford followed up with another post suggesting he may simply have been testing Ennis.
“I was just trying to see if you was really ducking @VergilOrtiz. Now I see,” Crawford wrote.
“@Timbradleyjr asked you if you had the opportunity to go up and fight @Canelo and you said you belt hunting. Now I don’t have a belt, so what the excuse now? I wanna hear this.”
Crawford’s challenge has already sparked plenty of speculation about whether this is simply playful banter or a genuine sign that he wants another fight.
With Crawford, you never really know.
The man could say something casually and have boxing fans planning an entire pay-per-view before dinner.
Ennis declared he would beat Crawford if the pair ever shared a ring, prompting the retired champion to fire back “do you know what I would have done to you?”
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, who promotes Ennis, believes the fight will happen.
“I’ve wanted this fight for so long,” Hearn told The Ring.
“I rate Crawford so highly but I’m just such a huge believer in Jaron Ennis, and I think this will be the fight that will be the biggest fight in boxing.”
If the fight actually happens, it would be a massive event. Crawford would have another chance to prove that he still belongs at the top, and Ennis would have the biggest opportunity of his career.
