Just a few days after his father LeBron James made his historic 2025–26 season debut, the Lakers decided on Thursday to send Bronny James to the G League South Bay Lakers. The older James had been playing for the South Bay Lakers as he recovered from a sciatica nerve injury. On the G League roster, his son is currently taking his place.
The young James has averaged 11.1 minutes per game, 2.1 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 10 games thus far this season. James’s performance in his second NBA season has undoubtedly improved.
But in order for his father to participate in his 23rd NBA season, the roster had to make room. During his rookie season, James played at the G League level for a considerable amount of time, averaging 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists with the South Bay Lakers. In the NBA, he hasn’t yet found that spark.
The four-time NBA champion revealed that his son formally moved out of his home this year, which coincided with the roster announcement. Until James is promoted back to the NBA, the father-son pair won’t see one another at home or on the court.
