Former New Orleans player Cedquavious “Dae Dae” Hunter is speaking about his NCAA ban over betting scandal.
Okay, buckle up. Cedquavious “Dae Dae” Hunter, yes, the former New Orleans basketball player just dropped some real talk on his NCAA ban.
Here’s the tea: Hunter was one of the college players who got banned by the NCAA. Why? He admitted to point-shaving. Translation: he purposely played below his best during games, like missing shots on purpose to help external bettors.
On Good Morning America, Dae Dae opened up about the scandal and it’s all over the news.
‘I just had a child,’ Hunter told the program. ‘The school wasn’t paying me money. So, like I was trying to get money to actually take care of my child.’
The investigation claims Hunter and his teammates, Dyquavian Short and Jamond Vincent, were offered $5,000 in exchange for their involvement.
And the wild part is when he lied about his involvement in the scandal thinking he could outsmart investigators and get out of the mess.
“I was trying to lie because I thought I was going to get my way out of it,” Hunter said.
The scheme led to a ban from NCAA competition and unenrollment from UNO.
So yes, he’s not acting like some secret mastermind gambler, he’s saying he made a very bad decision out of desperation. He didn’t just underperform a little. Hunter admitted he did not do his best.
Lesson? Even in sports, desperation can get you in deep trouble. And sometimes, the “fast cash” isn’t worth the lifetime ban.
